Anjopa

Providing a rich sonic feast ranging from songs of the spirit to comedy and social commentary.

Anjopa began in 2007 with three people coming together in kitchens and living rooms for music and friendship. Andrew Godon, John Spooner, and Paul Gatien all share a love of original folk music and love sharing it with others. Their songs encompass a broad spectrum of genres from Canadiana to Latin, from songs of the heart and spirit, to social commentary and comedy. More recently a rhythmic foundation was added to the group with the addition of Blair Mitchell on drums.

John Spooner was the catalyst who brought the players together. Born in Blind River Northern Ontario, John has sung all his life. Whether harmonizing with his mother or with a choir, his love of song and Canadiana shines through.

Paul Gatien hails from the north. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, Paul brings thirty years of song writing experience to the group: songs about life, love, and death, and songs that conjure visions of the Yukon where he has spent most of his life.

Andrew Godon began playing music in coffee houses around the San Francisco Bay Area during the folk music boom of the 60's. After a forty-year diversion into rock music of all forms and in many places, Andrew has come full circle back to his folk music roots.

Craig Moddle grew up in southern Ontario with a passion for music — singing harmony with the family and church choir, and playing folk, blues & rock. It is with great pleasure that he finds himself "blowing harp" with these talented gents.
